Painting Information

At the advanced age of 83, four years before his death, Ingres completed this masterful work.

In a remarkable circular composition with more than twenty nude female figures was reached the pinnacle in the depiction of beauty and the beautiful. Here reflected all the searches, all the experience of a long creative life of the artist.

This wonderful picture, which was initially conceived on a square canvas, was the result of all those works created by Ingres on this theme. It is obvious that the beautiful nude figure from the back, playing the lute and decorated with a turban woman in the foreground is similar to the The Valpinçon Bather, painted in 1808, as well as the "The Small Bather" in 1826. The pose of the dancing woman is remotely reminiscent of "Roger Delivering Angelica" from a painting created in 1819. The characters of "The Grande Odalisque," "Odalisque with a Slave," 1839/40, can also be found here. - if we turn our eyes to the reclining dancer behind and the reclining woman on cushions in the foreground.
