Painting Information

In his famous painting "The Source", Ingres returned to the "Venus Anadyomene" painted eight years earlier. Identical are the position of the standing and slightly bent legs, the slight curve of the thigh, the inclination of the head, the posture of the shoulders and arms, which here are slightly spread apart to embrace the jug. In the subtle play of the lines of the contours of the body, Venus appears here more elegant and at the same time sensual, though more restrained. The image of "The Source" seems to us a rustic beauty, with a pure-hearted expression, freer and more at ease. This work is a particularly successful figurative expression of the symbol of purity, pro-transparency and freshness of the source.

Thus, the artist's versatile creative talent allows him to create two completely different images from two outwardly similar figures of a nude female body.
