Peter Paul Rubens’ *Tiger, Lion and Leopard Hunt* (1616) is a visual symphony of controlled chaos and exuberant energy. This is Rubens at his most theatrical, creating a tightly woven tapestry of action, where human and animal forms blur into a whirlwind of violence and grace. The figures – muscular hunters, their faces locked in expressions of grim determination, and the wild animals they battle – are locked in a primal dance of survival. Rubens constructs the composition in such a way that the viewer is thrust into the very heart of this struggle, as though the scene is on the verge of bursting from the canvas.
